QUIET BEFORE THE STORM

The advance team and the incoming team members from Santa Cruz have joined up in Riberalta - the ICE2002 Expedition is now at full force. Greater Riberalta contains an eclectic mix of humanity. Along with the native Bolivian population are a French cultural anthropologist, a linguist from Australia and a man from Denver Colorado who, along with his Japanese wife, is here filming a pilot documentary on the Japanese workers who toiled in the rubber plantations during the 1890 - Pre WW2 period. The accomodations where the ICE2002 team is staying were once the home of a rubber baron that has since been converted to a hotel.

HELICOPTERS

The Red Devil Task Force (US Helicopters) and the NAS/ AIROPS are supporting our effort here at the edge of the rain forest with helicopter transport.

Due to technological limitations of local outlets, todays dispatch is brief. INMARSAT communications capabilities have now arrived in Riberalta which will correct this problem.
